Everything and everyone has benefit, and the amount of that benefit can change. It’s all very loose and easy to mold, but one thing is for sure, everything has some kind of value. Sometimes it is a really small value, and other times it is life-altering. You have benefit; everyday – or every other – you go out into the world and are part of someone’s life. It might be a very small section or piece of that person’s day or you completely turned their day around with that little smile you flashed from across the street or something of the like. That scale applies to everything you do and everyone you meet. You matter.
Since everything has value, what is the benefit you get from swimming?
Swim is a sport, and all sports have their work-outs. So, just like any other workout it strengthens and tons almost all your muscles in your body. Every sport works different muscles. A sport such as football includes a lot of running, so it makes sense that athletes that play the sport have stronger legs. Swimming works a lot of almost everything. On a interesting side-note, one of the ways you can definitely spot out a dedicated or long-term swimmer is by their shoulders.
Swimming has been proven to ease asthma and lower the risk of diabetes. It might also increase longevity and supposedly help control your appetite. It can also help improve your posture, balance, flexibility, and cholesterol levels.
Since it is an aerobic sport, when you swim your body releases endorphins which make you happier. So the quotation:
“You are just one swim away from a good mood.”
Or:
“Happiness is where the pool is.”
Isn’t complete and total bogus made up by a swimmer. Even if it was just complete and total bogus made up by a swimmer lacking oxygen, I would still agree with them.
As well as making you happier, swim can boost your confidence and self discipline. Confidence is needed to get through life, so having something to boost confidence while you’re younger, or older, is – in my opinion – definitely something worth putting some time into.
